The goal of any reform effort is to improve the quality of education. This section provides information about current and past education reform efforts in Massachusetts. Improving public education has been a continuing goal of the Massachusetts legislature. Since the late 1800's, the legislature has authorized over 100 studies of the schools. The current reform effort is the most ambitious and long-lasting.

In this section, you may look at studies on the MCAS performance of school districts in Massachusetts, read about the history of education reform in the state, or examine other reports relating to school improvement.

The Road to MCAS is an overview of what led to passage of the current reform package. Effective School Districts in Massachusetts provides information on how well school systems perform on MCAS relative to the community characteristics of systems.
